A phone scan on Hàng Bạc opens Hanoi’s heritage notes

The Hanoi Heritage Tourism Journey platform launched on 18 October at Kim Ngan Communal House. It holds 28 sites, chosen from more than 100 that a research team surveyed, and it is read from QR codes on the buildings.

Hanoi has a new way to read a street, and it starts on the wall. On 18 October the Hanoi Heritage Tourism Journey platform was launched at Kim Ngan Communal House, VOV reported. The French Embassy and the French Institute in Vietnam built it with the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. Nearly 40 experts and about 100 students spent a year on it. They surveyed more than 100 sites, with photographs, inscriptions, Sino-Nom materials, drawings, and film, and then kept 28 for the public collection.

The 28 are arranged as four journeys. One is the four guardian temples of old Thang Long. One is Mother Goddess temples, tied to a practice UNESCO has recognised. One is communal houses of the people who founded crafts in the Old Quarter. One is pagodas linked to scholars and monks. At the buildings, a QR code is meant to open historical and contemporary photographs, research notes, and a map. After the launch, the guests walked Hang Bac, Hang Ngang, and Hang Dao toward Hoan Kiem. Phạm Tuấn Long, director of the city’s culture and sports department, treated the project as practical cooperation on heritage, and said the platform will need updating and a public to correct it.

VOV does not print a web address. Check on arrival if you want a link to open at the hotel. The route the report actually describes is the code on the building, starting at Kim Ngan on Hang Bac. The photograph is that communal house.
