Friday is the 14th, and Hoi An gives that night to lanterns
The conservation centre still holds Old Town Night on the 14th of each lunar month. Two calendars put that night on Friday 23 October 2026. The centre has not printed a clock for it.
Friday 23 October 2026, the 14th of the ninth lunar month. The hour: Check on arrival.
The lantern night is not a full-moon party, and it is not a date someone invented for a poster. The Hoi An World Heritage conservation centre’s notice of 8 July 2025 says Old Town Night, the recreation of the town at the start of the twentieth century, is held on the 14th night of every lunar month. On that night the bright electric lights and the ordinary noise give way to candles and lanterns. The centre says local groups carry it: family music, the groups Giai điệu thời gian and Cung đàn xưa, Tang poetry, village chess and Chinese chess, traditional martial arts, tuồng, bài chòi, folk-singing lessons, and traditional instruments. It asks people to ask at the Hoai River square, 1 Cao Hong Lanh, or on the centre’s phones.
The civil date is the part the calendars add. ThoiGian.com.vn and the October table at ttnongli.com both put Friday 23 October 2026 on the 14th day of the ninth lunar month. The centre’s notice does not print that Friday, and it does not print a start or a finish. Check on arrival for the hour. The photograph is lanterns and boats on the river in Hoi An at night. It shows the kind of night the centre describes. It is not a photograph of 23 October 2026.
