Phu Quoc National Park is still free to walk, while it leases the forest
VnExpress reported on 16 October that the park’s own portal says entry is free, and that the park has no visitor count because it does not run commercial tourism. The first round of forest-site applications closes at 16:00 on 24 October.
Reported 16 October 2026. Applications close at 16:00 on 24 October. Entry, as the park portal told VnExpress: no fee.
You can still walk into the forest without buying a ticket, and the park is at the same time renting pieces of it. On 16 October, VnExpress reported a notice on the Phu Quoc National Park portal: the first round of applications to lease forest environment, for ecotourism, runs from 24 September until before 16:00 on 24 October. That round is 24 sites on 1,800 hectares, of which 1,300 hectares are special-use forest and more than 500 are protection forest. By 2030 the plan is 69 sites and nearly 5,400 hectares, about 2,800 of special-use forest and 2,500 of protection forest. The lease is 30 years at most, reviewed every five years. Nguyễn Văn Tiệp, the park director, told the paper that morning that the lease would be public and scored, and that the forest would not be traded away for growth.
The visitor half of the same article is plainer. The park covers 31,422 hectares and three forest types: evergreen broadleaf, melaleuca, and coastal mangrove. The paper says it holds 1,400 plant species and nearly 500 animal species. There is no visitor statistic, VnExpress writes, because the park has not organised commercial tourism. The portal, as the paper quotes it, says the park is open freely and charges no fee. What happens inside is informal, or run by local companies, mostly at places with a view: Suoi Tranh, the Cua Can river, Rach Vem beach, and some roads through the forest. The photograph is Suoi Tranh, one of the places that sentence names.
