The park and the langur
The forest gate, the golden-headed langur, and the walks and wartime stops on the island road.
The gate and the routes
The archipelago was designated a national park in 1986, a marine protected area in 2010, and a special national monument in 2013. The park boundary should still be aligned with the World Heritage boundary. The biosphere reserve dates from 2004, and the property extension is September 2023, criteria (vii) and (viii). The golden-headed langur lives only here and is critically endangered on the IUCN Red List.
From 1 January 2026, adult and child from 6: the park 160,000 / 80,000; the line from the park center to đỉnh Kim Giao, đỉnh Ngự Lâm, and động Trung Trang 120,000 / 60,000; đồng Ninh Tiếp and hang Tiền Đức 80,000 / 40,000; Phù Long, the mangrove, and động Thiên Long 80,000 / 40,000. Under 6 is free. Those fees are paid entirely to the state budget. The 2024 text, now replaced, said the park keeps what it collects, at the same prices. The child test also disagrees, as on the bay ticket: the 2024 line pays from age 6 or from 1.2 m, and is free under 6 or under 1.2 m. The gate is 07:00–17:00.
Động Trung Trang is on that route, about 300 m through the hill, with the Kim Giao forest at the site. Trung Trang valley is the largest on the island, about 300 ha, 10 to 30 m below sea level. The cave is 15 km northwest of thị trấn Cát Bà. Việt Hải is the fishing village on the Lan Ha shore. The trek title is “Ao Ếch – Việt Hải (12km)”. The village is under 18 km from the district center. The walk via Ao Ếch is given as more than 8 km, and also as 8 km. In summer Ao Ếch is a freshwater pool. In the dry season the bed is firm, slightly springy, and damp, and you can walk on it. About 80 houses are bamboo, wood, leaves, and earth.
Pháo đài Thần Công, cao điểm 177, was built in 1942. The gun on show is a damaged display piece, not a gun that fought. It is a few kilometres from the town center, or about 10 minutes. In 2013 a ticket was 40,000 đồng and a coffee 100,000. Hang Quân Y, older name Hùng Sơn, is the field hospital used in 1963–1965: about 200 m, three levels, 17 rooms. It is about 7 km from the center of Cát Bà, and another measure says about 13 km. Động Hoa Cương, from 1 January 2026, is 30,000 đồng for an adult and 15,000 for a child from 6. The collector keeps 21 percent and pays 79 percent to the budget. The 2024 text had the same amounts, placed the cave at xã Gia Luận, and said that commune pays its fee entirely to the budget.
