History

Du khách on 15 Mar 2023 gives the method and no founding date. Red sweet potato is boiled, sliced, and sun-dried for 9–12 days on sand over a layer of rười grass until the slice is chestnut brown and leathery.

Why it matters

It is a thing to take home, not a café serving. Du khách says you buy it at Chợ Đồng Hới and chợ Nam Lý. Nam Lý is only that buy-line, not a second market. The 2023 food fair on Bảo Ninh sold it with the dried seafood. Du khách on 25 Dec 2023 says an Asia Record list that year placed khoai deo among five natural specialties and gifts, and that the province then had three OCOP 3-star products: Linh Huệ, Như Mận, and Lâm Hường.

Texture

Du khách’s finished slice is chestnut brown and leathery after those days in the sun.

How to enjoy it

Buy the slices and take them home.

The morning market run is the hour for it.

Where to try it

Chợ Đồng Hới, on Mẹ Suốt, and chợ Nam Lý. Nam Lý is a buy-line, not a second market.
