Why it matters

VietnamPlus puts xôi ngũ sắc on the 2026 Long Tong offering trays at Bo Lu, with glutinous wine. VnExpress names it among the foods at the Pac Ngoi houses. VOV’s 2019 night-market note lists it with bamboo-tube rice and grilled lake fish. No 2025 or 2026 notice says that market still opens.

How to enjoy it

Take it from the offering table at Long Tong, or at the house when they are serving it.

Upland sticky rice, xôi nếp nương, is a different bowl on the same table.

In Hà Giang, the rice takes its colours from forest leaves, not a chemical dye, and the five colours stand for the five elements: yellow earth, green plant, red fire, white metal, and black water. It is eaten across the northern uplands as well as in Đồng Văn.

Where to try it

Bo Lu, on the festival ground at Long Tong. Pac Ngoi, at the house. The 2019 weekend market at Pac Ngoi listed it.

On the Hà Giang plateau and in Đồng Văn, as a plate of five colours.
