Hoi An

Lantern nights

Lanterns over the timber streets, the covered bridge at the west end, and candlelight on the 14th of each lunar month.

The night is the reason to sleep in Hoi An. Lanterns hang over the timber streets, the shops stay open, and the covered bridge closes the view at the west end. The streets are pedestrian-only 09:00–21:30 in summer and 09:00–21:00 in winter, so walk the old town once in the morning and again after dark.

On the 14th night of each lunar month the town switches off its electric light for candles and lanterns. Local groups bring music, poetry, chess, martial arts, tuồng, bài chòi, and folk singing into the streets, and the night itself has no ticket.

Tickets cover the houses, halls, and museums. From 10 August 2026 the city fee is 20,000 VND per person per building. The heritage centre’s 2026 notices still describe 80,000 VND and 120,000 VND combination tickets, so ask at the booth which one it sells.
