The town

War history

You walk the camps as one site. Governor Bonard signed the founding decision on 1 February 1862. The count is 127 cells, 42 isolation cells, and 504 solitary rooms called chuồng cọp. Counts of people held run from nearly 2,000 revolutionary fighters to tens of thousands, with about 20,000 dead. After 1975 the prison function ended. In 1979 the site was ranked a national relic with 17 components. Decision 548/QĐ-TTg of 10 May 2012 ranked it a special national relic. The protected area is more than 110 hectares.

Past the yard, the French tiger cages are stone walls, barred doors, and a long cell block, dated 1940, with 120 solitary rooms and 60 open rooms. Phú Hải, signed on its own gate, is the oldest large camp, built in 1862 and rebuilt in solid form in 1896. The same visit includes Phú Thọ, Phú Sơn, Phú Tường, Phú Phong, Phú An, Phú Bình, Phú Hưng, and the unfinished ninth camp. Chuồng Bò began as a cowshed in 1876 and was later used as cells. The lord’s house has 18,600 square metres of grounds and was the workplace of 53 governors from 1862 to 1975.

The walk runs through the museum, Phú Tường and the French tiger cages, the lord’s house, Phú Hải, Phú Sơn, Phú Bình, and Phú An, at số 02 Nguyễn Huệ, khu 9.
