Guild street of festival goods
Hang Ma is the Old Quarter street of festival goods. Its shopfronts are hung with decorations under striped awnings, and the stock follows the calendar: at the turn of the year the shops fill with Christmas trees, Santas, and New Year baubles. Walk it on the loop through the guild streets, and come in December to see it at its fullest.

Each of the 36 guild streets is named for the trade it has carried since the 14th or 15th century, and Hang Ma’s trade is festival goods. The shopfronts spill decorations onto the pavement, with scooters parked in front and the old tube houses rising behind.

The stock changes with the season. At the turn of the year the shops are lined with Christmas and New Year goods, trees and Santas included, and the whole street turns into one long festive shop. Walk through, then carry on to Dong Xuan Market at the north end.
Getting there and around
Hang Ma is one of the guild streets in the lanes north of Hoan Kiem Lake. Walk north from the lake into the quarter; it is free to walk.
