Chợ Lớn is the Chinese neighborhood in District 5, and the visit is the walk. Shophouse streets carry Chinese signs and red lanterns. Hào Sỹ Phường, an alley on Trần Hưng Đạo, has kept its rows of townhouses for the last 100 years. Mã Xa Hạng and Tuệ Huê Lý are the lesser-known lanes, old apartment blocks and houses that still show Chinese details.

Bình Tây is the wholesale hall, with more than 2,000 shops of spices, mushrooms, and dried fish. An Đông is the clothing wholesale market. Đại Quang Minh is the beads, ribbons, and fabric. Thiên Hậu is the pagoda on the same walk. Nghĩa An communal house, a Guan Yu shrine in Teochew style, is a few steps from it. A late breakfast is Cantonese dim sum: prawn dumplings, rice rolls, and radish cake. The walk has no ticket. Check on arrival for a street clock.
