Timber cathedral
The wooden church on Nguyen Hue in the morning, then across the Đăk Bla to Kon Klor and Kon K’Tu.
The wooden church
The cathedral stands on Nguyen Hue in Thống Nhất ward: cà chít timber raised from 1913 to 1918, Roman arches under a Ba Na roof, stained glass and a carved sanctuary inside. Entry is free and an hour covers it. Sunday Mass is at 6:00, 8:00, and 17:00, so come between services for a quiet nave. Walk from any hotel in the centre.
Kon Klor and Kon K’Tu
Kon Klor’s cable bridge opened on 1 May 1994 and runs 292 metres over the Đăk Bla. Crossing on foot is free. The Ba Na nhà rông beside it, about 3 km from the centre, is the large communal hall rebuilt after the 2010 fire. Kon K’Tu, about 5 km out across the bridge, is a Ba Na village of stilt houses. Entry is free, and two to three hours is the visit. Go early or late for the light, stay off the deck in high wind, and enter a home only when invited.
