Bird valley and caves in a karst basin
Karst valley where thousands of egrets and storks roost: boat out to the bird island and climb to a cave. It is about 5 km west of Bích Động and needs its own ticket. Go when you want birds and caves on top of the boat. Skip it if the Tam Cốc ride is your only day.

Thung Nham is a basin of more than 40 ha in the Hoa Lư forest, ringed by limestone. The bird garden covers more than 300 ha and holds about 40,000 birds of 46 species, from egrets and night herons to the open-billed storks in the trees. The boatman stops at a distance from the bird island so you can watch.

The caves are the other half of the visit. Động Vái Giời, the largest, sits up 439 stone steps and has three levels across about 5,000 m². Động Tiên Cá is a water cave of more than 1,500 m that you walk on a bamboo raft walkway.
An electric car runs the whole route, and there is a pool with its own price. Pair it with Bích Động, about 5 km east.
Getting there and around
Thung Nham is in the Hải Nham valley, about 5 km west of Bích Động pagoda by road. Inside the site, hire a bicycle or take the boat to the bird garden.
