The whale rite

Fishermen greet the whale at Thắng Tam. On an ordinary day you see the hall.

The communal house and the whale hall worship the whale as Nam Hải. The hall dates to the reign of Minh Mạng, 1820–1840, at 104 Hoàng Hoa Thám.

The rite is the 16th of the 8th lunar month. In 2026 the public days were 26 and 27 September, and the boats left Front Beach at 5:30. The next solar date follows the moon. Hòn Bà, the shrine rock at the end of Back Beach, is a low-tide crossing. Festival mornings there are about 5:00–9:00.
