The river and the rice under the hills
Walk the Nậm Rốm and the rice fields under the hills. You see the river from the bridge and the walking street, and the rice from Hill D1. This is the largest basin in the Northwest, the ground the battle sat in, not a ticketed park and not a tea plateau. The fee and a loop length are check on arrival. Come late in the afternoon if the rice is in.

The Nậm Rốm runs through the ward. You see it from the Mường Thanh bridge and from Phố đi bộ Mường Thanh, the walking street beside the river in the new block. From Đồi D1 the view takes in the city, the yellow rice, and the ridges. Mường Thanh is the largest basin in the Northwest. The walk is the ground between those points. It is not a ticketed park.

The river and the fields are not a separate ticket. Check on arrival only if a park gate appears. Check the loop length on arrival. Late afternoon is the hour for the fields if the rice is in. Check the crop calendar on arrival. Do not budget this walk as a second museum, and do not treat the basin as the tea rows at Mộc Châu.
Getting there and around
The river and the fields are the center of the basin, in phường Điện Biên Phủ. From 1 July 2025 that ward includes the old Mường Thanh wards. A walk from a central hotel reaches the bridge, the walking street, and the monument hill. Check the minutes on foot and a taxi fare inside the ward on arrival.
From the basin ward
On foot, in the center. The bridge, the walking street, and the view from Đồi D1 are the same ward. Check the minutes for that loop on arrival.
From Hill D1
The view of the rice is from the monument hill. Walk down toward the Nậm Rốm and the bridge. Check the minutes for that descent on arrival.
