Taste

The city portal says molasses, chewy sticky rice, and ginger. Vietnamnet says sweet, chewy, rice, and ginger. VnExpress says the molasses is red, boiled with ginger, and very sweet.

How to enjoy it

Eat it hot, in cool weather or a drizzle. The eight-specialty article says you blow on a small bowl. Vietnamnet, 27 November 2023, says the cake is glutinous rice and molasses, a cocoon or an oval, with no filling, chewy, sweet, and gingery, coated in molasses rather than stuffed. VnExpress, 4 September 2016, says rice flour rolled round like bánh trôi, dropped into boiling molasses and ginger so it soaks, which is why it is called ngào, and that mung-bean, pork, and empty cakes are all served. That article printed about 10,000 đồng at markets.

Where to try it

The 24 November 2022 city page puts it in the afternoon and does not name a street. VnExpress says the markets and does not name which hall.
