Vinh
Kim Lien, Ho Chi Minh’s home village, and the sand at Cua Lo. Walk the Ho Chi Minh square and the old citadel, then eat eel porridge. A beach day and a night in town, between Hanoi and Hue.

You wake on the sand at Cửa Lò, casuarina along đường Bình Minh, the water clear enough to see the sand. The city picture is Quảng trường Hồ Chí Minh and the statue at the corner of Hồ Tùng Mậu and Trường Thi. Kim Liên, outside the six wards, is the home village: 15 km on one account, 13 km by Quốc lộ 46 on the 2025 news page. Stay if the sand, that square, and Kim Liên are the trip. Go to Huế if the citadel is the trip. Go to Đồng Hới if Phong Nha is the next day.
The distances to the beach all stay. The national beach page prints 18 km and about 30 minutes by car on the Núi Cấm road. The city portal prints 17 km. A 2012 tourism news page prints 16 km to the east. A 3 May 2025 news page prints about 20 km. Older pages still say thị xã Cửa Lò. From 1 December 2024 that former town is inside the city, and from 1 July 2025 the beach wards are phường Cửa Lò. Quảng trường Bình Minh is on this sand. It is not the square in town.
The evening in town is the walking loop by the square. The April 2022 reports name Friday and Saturday, 19:00–23:30, on Hồ Tùng Mậu, Nguyễn Văn Cừ, Nguyễn Trung Ngạn, and Nguyễn Tài, about 1.5 km. Hồ Tùng Mậu is 430 m in those reports, Nguyễn Văn Cừ is 500 m, and Nguyễn Văn Cừ is the sidewalk of food shops and cafes. An English report of the same opening adds Sunday and names Nguyễn Trãi instead of the last two streets, and prints the fountain at nearly 1,000 m². A 2026 confirmation of which nights still close was not opened. In summer the other evening is the sand. The two evenings are not one street. No bar street was named.
The citadel is a gate, a moat the city roundup calls a lit lake with a grass bank, and the yard. It is not a reconstructed palace. Earth in 1804 under Gia Long, stone in Minh Mạng’s 12th year, 1831. The Xô viết museum is in that yard, nearly 2 km from the square, with more than 5,000 objects. Núi Quyết holds the Quang Trung temple, 92 m above the sea, where the 1 October 1788 edict sited Phượng Hoàng Trung Đô. The city page says that capital was started and not finished. Kim Liên is outside the six wards: 15 km on the city portal, 13 km by Quốc lộ 46 on the 2025 news page.

Getting there and around
Sân bay Vinh is about 15 km from the center on the national tourism page, which names flights to Hà Nội, Đà Nẵng, and Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh. The city portal names those three plus Buôn Ma Thuột and Đà Lạt, and names Vietnam Airlines, Jetstar Pacific, and Vietjet, with 22 movements a day on that page. Both route lists stay. The Jetstar Pacific name is what that portal page prints. A terminal address, a phone, a block time, and any kilometre besides the 15 km figure were not on the pages that loaded.
Ga Vinh is on the north–south line. The national page says every through train stops here. The city portal prints 319 km from Ga Hà Nội, and the Vietnam Railways southbound sheet also prints Vinh at km 319. A timetable collected on 15 Oct 2026 prints 321 km from Hanoi. Keep 319 and 321. The city portal’s “about five and a half hours” by rail from Hà Nội is that page’s phrase. It is not the same figure as the clocks. NA1 departs Hà Nội at 22:45 and arrives Vinh at 05:35. NA2 leaves Vinh at 21:30 and reaches Hà Nội at 05:05. Those are the daily pair for trains leaving 17 August through 30 December 2026. Fares were not copied. Southbound cells on the railways sheet: SE7 11:59, SE5 13:49, SE9 19:02, SE3 01:00 the next day, SE1 03:28 the next day. SE7 continues to Đồng Hới 16:27, Huế 19:43, and Đà Nẵng 22:30. The 15 October 2026 departure list also prints SE8 10:12 Hanoi, SE6 12:35 Hanoi, SE10 20:33 Hanoi, SE4 22:27 Hanoi, SE2 23:08 Hanoi, SE20 04:35 Hanoi, SE19 01:29 Da Nang, and SE32 Friday only 02:04 Hanoi. Northbound Vinh-to-Huế cells were not in the portion of the official sheet that loaded. These are scheduled times, not live tracking.
By road the national page prints 291 km to Hà Nội, 1,418 km to Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh, and 452 km to Đà Nẵng. The city portal prints 295 km to Hà Nội, 1,424 km to Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh, and 400 km to Viêng Chăn. Keep both Hà Nội figures and both Hồ Chí Minh City figures. Quốc lộ 1A through the city is 10 km on the national page and 15 km on the city portal. Two city bus lines run toward the beach: Bến Thủy–Trường Thi–Cửa Hội–Cửa Lò, and Bến Thủy–Quang Trung–Quán Bánh–Cửa Lò. The city portal names Bến xe Vinh and Bến xe Chợ Vinh, and says Bắc Vinh and Nam Vinh were being built. That page does not give a 2026 bay. On site, the square is the walk in the center. The four beach distances above are the ones to use. Do not collapse them.
