Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum Lăng Chủ tịch Hồ Chí Minh

A morning visit on Ba Dinh Square

Join the morning line at 17 Ngoc Ha for the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, the columned hall at the head of Ba Dinh Square. Visits run only in the morning and never on Mondays or Fridays, with a few named exceptions, and the building shuts for maintenance in the autumn. The citadel and One Pillar Pagoda fill the rest of the morning.

Ba Dinh

War history

The mausoleum stands at the head of Ba Dinh Square, with the flag on its tall pole in front and lawns on either side. Visitors assemble at 17 Ngoc Ha, not at the citadel gate on Hoang Dieu. Walking the square itself needs no ticket.

Go early on a Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, or Sunday. From April to October the doors close at 10:30 on weekdays and 11:00 at weekends; from November to March, at 11:00 and 11:30. Arrive in the afternoon and you will find it shut.

The Imperial Citadel and One Pillar Pagoda are in the same district, with their own gates and tickets, so the rest of the Ba Dinh morning is close by.

Getting there and around

Visitors assemble at 17 Ngoc Ha, in Ba Dinh, west of the lake. This is a different entrance from the Imperial Citadel at 19c Hoang Dieu. Take a car or motorbike from Hoan Kiem.

If the night is in Hanoi, search Old Quarter hotels.
