The tomb stands beside chùa Kỳ Lân, in xã Gia Phương, huyện Gia Viễn, about 18 km from the city and about 5 km from thị trấn Me. Đinh Bộ Lĩnh, also called Đinh Hoàn, was born in 924 in Hoa Lư, châu Đại Hoàng, this commune, the son of Đinh Công Trứ and Đàm Thị. The mountain west-southwest of the commune is said to look like a kỳ lân, which is the name. The cave pagoda, also called chùa Hang, sits in that mountain.

The tomb was rebuilt in 2009 after the older one weathered. At the foot of the mountain is a stone altar carved with dragons and clouds, then a pair of stone lamp posts, then about 50 stone steps in five equal flights, with đại trees along them. The hall is two storeys and eight roofs, tiled in scales, three bays and four rows of columns. Inside, a stele about 2 m high reads Lăng phát tích vua Đinh Tiên Hoàng đế in Chinese and in Vietnamese. The cave beside it holds the reclining Buddha under the rock, with daylight at the mouth.
The complex belongs with the Dinh temple group in Gia Phương. The Hoa Lu temple ticket in Trường Yên is a different ground.
