The pagoda stands in thôn Yên Thành, xã Trường Yên, about 300 m north of the temple of Lê Đại Hành, in the old capital. The pillar in the court is dated 995, under Lê Đại Hành, carved with a sutra and verses. The three characters on the gate are Nhất Trụ tự, which is why the folk name is chùa Một Cột. The hall is a chữ Đinh plan: five bays in front, three bays in the upper hall, tiled in northern tiles. The upper hall's carpentry is Lê, and the front hall's woodwork is Nguyễn. The Ministry of Culture and Information ranked the pagoda a national historic and cultural relic in 1998.

Decision 2382/QĐ-TTg of 25 December 2015 named the stone scripture pillar a national treasure. The pillar has six fitted parts: a square base, a round plinth, an eight-sided shaft, an eight-sided capital, and a gourd finial, standing west of the hall. The court is over 3,000 square metres. A peace ceremony falls on the 15th of the first lunar month. Walk the gate, the court, and the pillar.
