Terrace valley 8 km southeast: look across the stepped fields and roofs for the picture under the ridge. Giay rice fills the narrow valley, and Mong and Dao fields sit higher on the slopes. A stream of about 15 km passes Lao Chai, Ta Van, Hau Thao, and Ban Ho. Harvest dates run from mid-August into November.

Stepped fields, roofs, and the valley at Muong Hoa

Muong Hoa is the farmed valley under the town, at Hầu Thào, 8 km southeast. You look across the terraces from mid-slope, or you walk them. Giay wet rice sits in the narrow valley. Mong and Dao fields sit higher up. The stream is about 15 km, with 22 tributaries, and it passes Lao Chai, Ta Van, Hau Thao, and Ban Ho. That stream is the lower section of Silver Waterfall.

Harvest runs from mid-August into November. September rice is bright yellow. One window is mid-August until early September, another about mid-August to October, and the town window is September–October or September–November. Plan for that whole span.
The Muong Hoa train is a separate ride of about 2 km toward the cable-car station, opened on 31 March 2018. The valley walk is the fields. Village gates along the road have their own fees.
Getting there and around
The valley sits about 8 km southeast of the church, at Hầu Thào. The road crosses a high pass, then the fields. From July 2025 the old xã Mường Hoa sits inside xã Tả Van.

There is no single valley ticket. Gates at Lao Chai–Ta Van, Ta Phin, and Ban Ho are charged on their own. The Muong Hoa train fare is separate.
