Hanoi Opera House Nhà hát Lớn Hà Nội

The opera house at 1 Trang Tien

Stand on the square at 1 Trang Tien and take in the cream-and-yellow facade, the columns, and the dome of the Hanoi Opera House, south of Hoan Kiem. Refurbished in 1997, it sets the tone for the quieter streets around the history museum. Look up the programme before you plan an evening inside.

The Opera House faces its own square at 1 Trang Tien, south of Hoan Kiem. Look for the columns, the balustrades, and the name across the cornice. The building was refurbished in 1997.

Make it part of a walk south of the lake: the National Museum of History shares this side of town, and Trang Tien Plaza is on Hai Ba Trung. For a performance, look up the programme and the ticket desk on the theatre's website first.
