Chaozhou Assembly Hall Hội quán Triều Châu
Chaozhou hall for the sea gods
The Chaozhou merchants’ hall at 157 Nguyễn Duy Hiệu, built in 1845 for the gods of wind and wave who kept the port’s voyages safe. The draw is the carving: a wooden frame of folk-story motifs and reliefs built up in porcelain. A short stop, quieter than the dragon court on Trần Phú.

The hall is at 157 Nguyễn Duy Hiệu. Chaozhou merchants built it in 1845 as their meeting place and their own place of worship, and people also call it chùa Âm Bổn. The gods here govern wind and wave, so that voyages out of the port would go smoothly.

The building is a carved wooden frame, with motifs from folk stories and reliefs built up in porcelain. Come in the morning. If your ticket includes one assembly hall, the Fujian hall is the long one and the Cantonese hall is the dragon court. This is the sea-god hall.
