Pine-hill tomb of the dynasty’s founder
The founder’s tomb: a family of tombs spread over 42 named pine hills upstream, with no outer wall. Walk the honor court and seven terraces to Bửu Thành and the two stone tombs of the king and the empress, with Minh Thành temple beside them. The name covers a family of tombs, not one courtyard. Work ran from 1814 to 1820, after Empress Thừa Thiên Cao died. The centre describes more than 28 square kilometres and 42 named hills, from the Trường Sơn foothills to the Tả Trạch, in xã Hương Thọ.

Three zones make the visit. The burial of the king and the empress has an honor court, seven terraces, and Bửu Thành with two stone tombs. Minh Thành temple is on the right. A stele pavilion on the left carries Minh Mạng’s “Thánh đức thần công”. There is no outer wall. The pines are the boundary. The centre says 85 marker columns once stood, 42 remained in 1859, and two are left.
An adult ticket is 150,000 VND, and children under 13 enter free. Come by boat, about 18 km up the Perfume River to the landing, or by road, about 16 km, then the Kim Ngọc ferry and a few kilometres of forest track to the two columns.
Getting there and around
The centre’s own route is a boat of about 18 km up the Perfume River, or a road of about 16 km and then the Kim Ngọc ferry, plus a few kilometres of forest track.
