Walk the relic in An Thới. Nhà tù Phú Quốc, also called trại giam Cây Dừa and nhà lao Cây Dừa, stands about 30 km southeast of Dương Đông. A French camp named Cây Dừa opened in 1950 on about 40 ha, in zones A–D, and stopped after Geneva in July 1954. In 1955 it was repaired as a re-education camp. In 1966 it was expanded to 400 ha and 400 cells. By 1972 it had 14 zones. From 1967 to 1973 it held more than 40,000 prisoners, of whom more than 4,000 died. Forty-two escapes were organised. It became a national historic relic in 1996 and a special national relic in March 2015.

On the ground you walk a monument, a cemetery, an indoor display, an outdoor display, a documentary, and models of the punishments. The memorial and the fenced compound are the visit, with the barracks behind the wire. This is a war relic. Give it the daylight on a south day, with the harbour and the cable car, and keep the beach evening for Bãi Trường.
Getting there and around
The prison stands in thị trấn An Thới, about 30 km southeast of thị trấn Dương Đông. Ride south by motorbike, taxi, or minibus and combine it with the harbour. The cable-car station at Bãi Đất Đỏ is about 31 km from Dương Đông, so the two stops share the south road.
