Bach Dinh Bạch Dinh
A late-1800s villa, now a museum
A white French villa begun in 1898 on Big Mountain, now a museum: a short stop on the hill walk. Walk the gardens and verandas that look out to sea, then see the local collection inside. Come in the afternoon, and avoid Monday, when it is closed. The summit is a 30-minute trek beyond the house.

Bạch Dinh, the White Villa, was built for the French governor. Work started in 1898, in the same years as the Hanoi Opera House. Today it is a quiet museum of local artefacts, with gardens and verandas facing the sea.

Use it as a stop on the walk up Big Mountain. The summit trek beyond the house takes about 30 minutes. Come in the afternoon for the garden walk, and leave time for the view from the veranda.
Getting there and around
Bach Dinh is on Trần Phú, on the Big Mountain side above Front Beach. The museum entrance is 4 Trần Phú. Walk up the hill path from the Front Beach end, or take a taxi to the gate.
From Front Beach
Walk north along the shore to Trần Phú, then up the hill path.
From the Ho May station
The cable-car station is 1A Trần Phú, on the same road. Walk along Trần Phú.
