Vietnam Guide Saved

My Son is now inside Da Nang city after the Quang Nam merger.

My Son Mỹ Sơn

My Son is a valley of Cham temple towers west of Hoi An, built between the 4th and 13th centuries. War damage is obvious. Go in the morning, with a guide or the site notes, if you want the ruins to mean more than a photograph.

The temples are brick towers in a forested valley, sacred to the Cham kings. Many were damaged in the twentieth century. What remains is still the most important Cham site you can reach from Hoi An.

Tours leave Hoi An early because the valley gets hot. A private car lets you leave when the ticket gate opens. There is a small museum at the entrance; read it before the walk.

Common questions

Is My Son worth it?
Yes if you want the Cham context for central Vietnam. No if you are collecting viewpoints. The valley is quiet and damaged, not monumental in the way Angkor is.

My Son by interest

History and brick architecture. Skip it if you have no interest in ruins and would rather have a second day in the old town.

Getting there and around

You cannot walk here from Hoi An. Car, taxi, or tour bus are the options. Electric carts or a walk cover the last stretch from the visitor center to the towers.
