Phong Nha-Ke Bang is a national park of river caves. The park boat into Phong Nha Cave is the easy visit. Deeper caves such as Paradise Cave and the trekking caves are separate tickets and separate days.

Phong Nha town is a string of hotels along the Son River, built for people going into the caves. The national park sits in limestone hills that run to the Lao border.
The classic Phong Nha Cave is a boat ride into a lit cavern. Paradise Cave is a dry walk on a long boardwalk. Son Doong and the darker trekking caves are guided expeditions and must be booked ahead. Do not assume every cave is included in a day tour from Hue.
Common questions
- Can you visit Son Doong on your own?
- No. It is a multi-day guided expedition with a long booking lead. The boat cave and Paradise Cave are the visits most travelers mean.
